Supreme Court Issues Notice On Petition For Limiting Candidates To Fight Elections From More Than Single Constituency

Indian English News Paper

A notice was issued by the Supreme Court to the central government and election commission based on a petition filed to restrict candidates from contesting more than one constituency simultaneously for the same legislative body in the similar election.
The bench headed by Chief Justice P Sathasivam and Justice NV Ramana served notice on a plea filed by advocate H.K. Naik for asking declaration that Section 70 of the Representation of the People Act, 1951, which deals with the case of a candidate getting elected from more than one seat, be declared in excess of legal power or authority of the constitution.
